Remodelista :: Architect / Designer Directory

Did you see this new feature Remodelista recently launched?  An entire directory full of eye candy and valuable resources; in other words, a dream come true!  I'm off to go get lost in its splendor...

The Remodelista Architect / Designer Directory is a selective listing of architects, interior designers, landscape architects, and lighting designers around the world. The design professionals featured in the Remodelista Architect / Designer Directory have been chosen by the Remodelista editors for their commitment to excellent design and to furthering innovative and sustainable design. Firm listings are organized by geographic region, practice areas, and project type.

Check it out and let me know who your favorite firm is!

[P.S.  Here's a great list of questions to ask an architect and/or contractor before hiring one to renovate your home!]

Robin Chell :: Interior Design

Robin Chell Design is a Seattle-based interior design group spearheaded by the very talented Robin Chell.  Chell has 15 years of ID experience under her belt and was recently named one of Seattle's top interior designers by Seattle Magazine.

A perusal of her portfolio shows a taste for a modern/contemporary aesthetic, while still reflecting the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and maintaining the integrity of the architecture itself.  The result is a look that is fresh, modern, and functional.

It's no surprise that my favorite home is this mid-century modern renovation completed in conjunction with Coop 15 Architecture.  I love the way it maximizes the natural light (a must for Seattle), while still keeping the spirit of the original MCM style.

The furniture is fabulous as well!  Included in this 2500-square foot remodel was the reupholstering and refurbishing of an inherited collection of period furniture.  (Can you imagine?)  The resulting design successfully integrated the existing furniture while freshening the interior with new pieces.

DOGone House :: archimania

Wrigley is an inside dog, so we have no real need for a dog house, but the concept and execution of this one is too good not to share.  The DOGone House by Memphis-based firm archimania is inspired by the idea of a matchbox: outer wrapper and inner box.

In the case of the DOGone House, the outer wrapper is made of bent steel, serving both as a protective covering and a temperature regulator.  (The steel is coated in white automotive paint, which reflects sunlight and minimizes heat gain.)  I especially love the incorporated food and water bowls!

The inner box is made of black stained wood and offers a comfortable, cozy atmosphere for the dog.  When it's time to clean, the box slides out and is easily washed.

This modern dog house was designed for a charity auction event called Barkitecture, with the proceeds benefiting the Memphis Area Golden Retriever Rescue and the Weimaraner Rescue of the South.  There's nothing like a good cause to spur innovative design!
