Outdoor Furniture :: A Sunset Book

This last weekend I had the great opportunity to go to a few estate sales with a couple of my favorite people.  The first house we stopped in was an absolute treasure trove of amazing books!  One little gem I picked up was this 1979 Sunset book "Easy-to-Make Outdoor Furniture".  A quick glance through and I knew it was a keeper!

From great modern loungers to flat-packed, plywood table and chair sets, this book pretty much blew my mind.  The "wooden sunning platform" is totally something you'd find today, and probably spend buko bucks for.  In fact, it looks a lot like Loll's $1200 405 Chaise, except that it's cooler and you can make it yourself!

I also love this dual-purpose, swivel-top table/bench set.  First it's a picnic table, then... voila!  Swivel that bad boy and it turns into two separate benches.  Genius, I say.  Genius.  Now all I need are tools and a big enough yard to put all this furniture in!

So, what are some of your favorite flea market / estate sale gems?  I'd love to hear about your most prized finds!

More pics after the jump!

The Sandpit :: NYC in Miniature

I'm a total sucker for tilt-shift photography and time-lapse videos, so when you put the two together, my heart swells with joy and warm fuzzies, and little kittens crawl out of my ears.  It's safe to say then, that The Sandpit nearly sent me into a bliss-induced coma.

Director Sam O'Hare shot the whole thing in five days and came away with over 35,000 stills.  After what I can only imagine was an intense bit of post-production work, the result is what you see here.  A beautifully imagined, painstakingly shot short film depicting a day in the life of New York City.

Enjoy!
