Weekend Project :: Master Bedroom

Wait, what?  A master bedroom project?  What about the kitchen or the guest room?  I know, I know.. but sometimes these things happen.  It's OK to work on a project that is nowhere near the top of your list of things to do.  Sometimes you even find yourself standing inside a paint store and you think, "Why not?" and then you go home with several gallons of paint you never intended to buy.  You know, because you're crazy and live life on the edge.

So, this weekend we decided to paint over all those lovely white walls that have happily resided in our bedroom for the last three years.  Why?  Why not!  We chose Benjamin Moore's Willow Creek in eggshell, and kids, it's beautiful.  Seriously.  It's a perfectly warm grey without turning brown and it makes our room incredibly cozy.  I love it.

As per usual, I have some wild ideas for our bedroom.  We took down our hung-too-high mirror in order to paint, but I'd love to put up a few of these narrow mirrors from CB2 in its place.  All staggered-like, I think they'd look pretty cool.  We also have a few prints from the very talented Kate Banazi that I've been itching to put up in our bedroom as well.  Against that neutral grey, they'd pop like crazy.

We'd also like to replace that awesome ceiling fixture aka the Boob Light, with a more contemporary ceiling fan.  Something like this Cirrus Hugger fan from the Modern Fan Co would be nice.  And, in my wildest dreams, I'd love, LOOOOVE to have a turquoise (or magenta!) Womb Chair.  Can someone make that happen for me?  I'll give you my first born and maybe a year supply of lollipops.  Maybe.

So, there you have it.  Our weekend project and a peek into my crazy, two-steps ahead mind.  What were some of your weekend projects?  Do any of you daydream of future rooms like I do?  I need some peer validation, because I'm starting to think maybe it's not normal.

The Deets: 1. Infinity Narrow Mirror - CB2 2. The Night Before screenprint - Kate Banazi 3. Saarinen Womb Chair / Ottoman - Knoll 4. Cirrus Hugger Ceiling Fan / Modern Fan Co. - Lumens

Guest Room Ideas :: Round 2

OK, on Monday I hinted that I had some new guest room ideas brewing.  You may remember the first guest room mock up I did, but a lot of those items are no longer available... so.. here we are.

This time around, I really wanted things to be bright and cheery, so what better place to start than a wall covered in this Orla Kiely wallpaper?  It's super fun and playful, not to mention versatile as far as a potential color scheme goes.  I thought it would be great to match the rest of the walls in Woodlawn Blue from Benjamin Moore.

I was pretty set on having the Flex Sofa serve as a convertible bed (the now-discontinued green color was my initial choice last time), and fortunately the red/orange color goes perfectly with the wallpaper!  I also love this green rug, as it ties in wonderfully as well without competing with the bold pattern of the wall.

To help keep the room from turning into a complete circus, I thought about bringing in some beautiful walnut pieces and grey accessories.  Top the room off with a playful ceiling light, and we're set.  All that's left really is to add a few decorative touches, like artwork and some sort of mirror.  Oh, and make sure all this stuff would actually fit in our space!

SO, what do you think?  Should I go for it?  Is this a room you'd crash in?  Give me all the feedback you can muster!

Branch Wall :: THE END

OK, deep breath... IT'S DONE!!!  I know, I can hardly believe it myself, what with the epic eight month completion time.  But there it is, in all its glory.  You thought I'd never finish, didn't you?  To be fair, I finished the first coat in May... Yes, I'm crazy enough to insist on painting a second coat because the first one was SO MUCH FUN.  Also, it just looks better.

So, to recap, I first thought of the branch wall idea a few years ago after I spotted Ferm Living's Branch Wallpaper.  But, at $115 per single roll, it was a little more than I wanted to pay.  Jump to nearly two years later, and I finally took the plunge and decided to DIY it.  Many, many months and hand cramps after that, I finally finished it.  Just in time for...

...a piano!  Yes folks, the Branch Wall now hides behind Brady's childhood piano, which was delivered on Friday.  (Hence my disappearance from the blog last Friday.  I was hastily finishing up the last of the wall.  The piano was literally delivered 30 minutes after my final brush stroke!)  Luckily for us, Brady's mom decided to get a white piano some twenty years ago.  She must have known it would someday find its way in front of a black and white wall.

So Adventurers, that's the end of this DIY saga.  Now on to the next project: painting our kitchen cabinets!

[Paint: Graphite (wall) and Decorator's White (branches) both from Benjamin Moore]
