Modern Rugs :: Pappelina

Pappelina, the brainchild of Swedish textile designer Lina Rickardsson, offers up an array of boldly patterned, brightly colored rugs made from woven plastic.  Recently, the line has expanded to include wool blankets, velvet pillows, and even kitchen linens.  I don't know about you, but I am absolutely in love with the simple, graphic patterns!  (Also, I'm curious about this plastic rug trend going on in Sweden right now.  Remember these?)

Brita Sweden :: Plastic Rugs

I know what you're thinking and yes, "plastic rugs" sounds like crazy talk.  BUT, these graphic floor coverings are made from soft PVC and woven like more traditional cotton rugs, making them perfect for kitchens, entryways, laundry spaces, and for use as door mats.  Brilliant, I say.  Now if only they could find a way to make them from recycled plastic...

Available from Huset in two patterns: Anna (hex) and Gunnel (chevron).

Anna available in red, yellow, black, pink or aqua: $65 - $205

Gunnel available in blue, red, brown, brown or black: $65 - $205

Vintage Belt Floor Mat :: TING Studios

This floor mat is made entirely of old leather belts, which is totally crazy to me.  I'm wondering how difficult it would be to DIY something like this?  Thoughts?

About:

This handsome, handmade floor mat is made of artfully assembled vintage leather belts that have been rescued on their way from waist to waste. Its rich tones, textures, and tread-friendly patina evoke the look of a wonderfully worn wood floor, albeit with a decidedly warmer under-foot feel.  By TING Studios.

Vintage Belt Floor Mat available from Branch: $688
